About osaka's new soft skin Mooring buoys
One
of Osaka´s most specialized mooring buoys, they keep the strong support from the
traditional steel pipe core structure, surrounded of our high buoyancy
polyurethane foam, or other material tailored to the industry or requirement, creating
a durable soft skin.
The soft skin is a new technology that is replacing the old, or “traditional”
steel buoys, and offers a higher impact resistance than traditional hard
plastic shell buoys.

Our smaller mooring buoy sizes begin at 2.5 Tons of net buoyancy, provided with a less than 2 m diameter body, and up to 7 Tons NB, with over two and a half m buoys. These smaller sizes are conventionally used for ship mooring in quays, or near the shore, such as ferries, smaller cruise ships and smaller catamarans. Particularly popular is the 5 Tons mooring buoy for commercial ship mooring, and are typically deployed outside harbors and entry to docks.

These are the most commonly used standard sizes of our soft skin Mooring Buoys, achieving a net buoyancy range of 9 and 16 tons of net buoyancy, which is calculated as the total buoyancy minus the weight of the buoy itself. Their sizes start at 3 meters of diameter, up to a little bit les than 3.5 (three and a half). They are typically used for the mooring of larger ships in open seas and close to the shore, but also for the mooring of fish farms, which are typically arranged in rows of 4, 5, 6 or more cages, or other configurations typically employed in Aquaculture.

Our larger standard sizes of the Osaka Mooring Buoy are typically employed in Offshore applications, requiring a Net Buoyancy between 18.5 tons and 27.5, being the 25 toner the most commonly used standard size. These buoys start at 3.7 m of diameter, and up to 4.2 m on the larger sizes. They are traditionally used for the mooring of tanker ships, FPSO and FSO vessels, large container ships, or even for the mooring of offshore oil rigs, or even in Single Point Mooring (SPM) systems. Their construction allows them to be used on harsher environments and more challenging conditions, being able to perform effective mooring on deep waters where waves can become a trouble for conventional, lower quality mooring buoys.

Osaka Industry is also proudly able to offer 45.5 Tons mooring buoyancy or even superior sizes, such as 50 Tons or even reaching 120 Tons of net buoyancy, for super heavy mooring in major offshore mooring lines. Our standard size is 45.5 tons of Net Buoyancy, achieved with a 4.6 m in diameter large buoy, but higher buoyancy can be achieved both with customized mooring buoys of this kind, or with our heavy-duty modular buoys. These extra large sizes are employed for deepwater systems, also in FPSO and FSO or even SPM support, and terminal mooring.
