About our new soft-skin anchor pendant buoys

The Osaka Anchor Pendant Buoys are a highly specialized type of support buoys, but designed for "Heavy-Duty" operations in the deep sea and offshore operations.

They are the perfect fit to withstand challenging environments due to their soft skin layer that has improved water resistance even at high abrasion conditions.

This is the standard modality, the cylindrical one, it’s geometry allows it to distribute any potential impact evenly at any point of the surface.. Rectangular or “suitcase” shaped anchor pendant buoys are available as well.

Standard Weights & Sizes

NOTE: Weight in kg. Measurements in mm.
These are our standard dimensions, after product customization deviation margins might apply.

Smaller Sizes

2.5 T to 10 T Anchor Pendant Buoys
2.5 5 7.5 10
NB 2,500 5,000 7,500 10,000
Buoyancy 3,050 5,950 8,950 11,250
Weight 550 950 1,450 1,250

These are our smallest standard modalities of our regular Pendant Buoyancy series, starting at just 2,5 T of Net Buoyancy, and around 2 m tall; and ranging all the way until 10 Tons with 2,8 m height, these small support buoys are still an excellent fit for offshore support of sections of a mooring line. Their smaller size makes them easier to deploy and less costly to install, being able to require some of the smallest OSV (Offshore Support Vessels), or even other types of ships capable of handling installations in the offshore, making them ideal for a fast installation when urgency is required the most.

Medium Sizes

15 T to 30 T Anchor Pendant Buoys
15 20 25 30
NB 15,000 20,000 25,000 30,000
Buoyancy 16,800 22,200 27,600 33,00
Weight 1,800 2,200 2,600 3,000

Medium sized Soft Skin Pendant Buoys range between the number of 15 tons, and go all the way up to 30 tons, starting at just 3,3 meters and ending at roughly 4 m tall. These are our most popular sizes, as they can be deployed on the standard offshore projects, as components of critical maritime infrastructure support, such as the R3 or R4 Anchor Chain, usually connected to an offshore anchor such as a Stevpris Mk5 or Mk6 for the newer generations. This type of buoy is typically employed at Temporary Moorings, which can be used both of offshore oil rigs, but also on ships such as FPSOs or other offshore oil vessels.

Larger Sizes

35 T to 40 T Anchor Pendant Buoys
35 40
NB 35,000 40,000
Buoyancy 39,800 45,200
Weight 4,800 5,200

The 35 and 40 toners are our standard sizes of the largest generation of this type of Pendant Buoyancy made of this material, the soft skin, but larger sizes are available on request without any problem, as Osaka Industry is your capable and high quality expert specialized on the design and manufacture of high performance buoys for challenging environments. Their size is considerable, starting at 4,4 m and ending at 5 m tall, these are seriously large buoys. Anchor Pendant extreme buoyancy of 50 tons, or even 100 tons, can be achieved through our alternative modular options, if they were even needed for a project. These types of buoys, due to their size, are typically deployed on deep water offshore projects, obviously not deployed under the water, but they are supporting larger mooring lines, even studless offshore chain mooring lines for LTM (Long Term Mooring). These buoys are also employed lately on Offshore Wind projects, to which our team at Osaka Industry can offer a high-end level of customization, which is so useful on new and developing industries such as the Offshore Renewables, which tend to need design adaptations and product tailoring for their challenging environments.

Fully Certified
Quality, Design & Manufacture

Scope of Certification

Offshore Industry Compliance:
Our certification of this kind of APB (Anchor Pendant Buoyancy) is adapted to the requirements of the Offshore Industry where it is typically used. Depending on the needs of our customer, we are able to offer a certificate involving everything from the material composition, design of the product itself, and testing and manufacture processes. Additionally, as it is becoming increasingly popular, we are also able to offer environmental compliance, tracking, reporting and certifications.

ISO 9001:2015 Quality Assurance:
Production is fully compliant with ISO 9001:2015 standard on Quality Management Systems, this is a basic requirement for equipment as specialized as Anchor Pendant Buoys, which is a crucial component in the very expensive Offshore Mooring Lines, but we have decided to mention it as a public statement as it is a guarantee of our high quality. This is especially important since there is not one single international standard for the design of these products, and the lack of an explicitly mentioned QA Management System can be a significant supply chain risk.

Custom or Standard Design, Adjusted to Perfection

Adjusting Standard Soft Skin APB Buoys:
We have compiled a list of the most widely used standard sizes of our Soft Skin Anchor Pendant Buoy. We can make gentle adjustments to the design, such as minor buoyancy or weight modifications, the use of a special buoy eye, special or super-reinforced core pipes or similar, with barely any effect on the production time, efficiently. This buoy is still our standard design, but "tweaked" or adjusted to the desired customer requirements, or "perfection".

Purchasing Custom Anchor Pendant Buoyancy:
At Osaka Industry we are a custom design and manufacture specialist, you can simply let us know your project details and requirements, and we will present you fully customized pendant buoyancy, to fit your needs and expectations. This buoy is based on our existing designs, but made fully bespoke, customized, and it is the best candidate to perform the task required.

Know What to Avoid:
We have reached the conclusion to avoid fixed designs or lack of customization capabilities not backed by explicit experience and project datasets. The reason for this is that buoys, especially for support buoys such as APB, are a smaller component of a larger system, is that it is a far less complex and far more economical task to customize the buoy to your mooring line, than to customize your entire mooring line to a buoy that was purchased without the knowledge or guarantee that it will be the exact proper fit to your larger system. Osaka Industry is the supplier with the long experience, and the projects dataset, that is able to properly guide you as a customer and your decisions, and provide you with either fully customized, or gently adjusted Pendant Buoyancy, that are designed to serve for its intended purpose, and designed to avoid last-minute changes, the need of purchasing new buoys again, and designed to avoid larger problems such as having to replace other larger and more expensive components of the mooring line, because of a lack of sufficient planning. It simply takes a few extra minutes to discuss with us project details and requirements, but then you gain a technical and commercial proposal made for you, completely adjusted, and that once you accept you know exactly what you are going to get, and how well it will function. As a customer, you of course have the option to compare with other suppliers and try to apply the design changes yourself, but it is still our experience that there are risks on trying to perform these tasks, that even professionals struggle with more complex environments such as the Offshore Industry, but that having the experience and the dedicated dataset, such as the ones that Osaka Industry explicitly states and mentions, you can finally obtain a design proven by time to work, to last, and to avoid on-site urgent changes and modifications.

Manufacturing Superior Anchor Pendant Buoys

The use of ISO or ASTM or other certified superior quality materials result on superior quality Anchor Pendant Buoys, or products in general. This is our long term experience, and this is the philosophy that has allowed our buoys to reach the compliance with the strictest maritime requirements in the World, such as the requirements of the US Coast Guard.

Rigid Internal Core:
Our APB Buoys are composed by a super resistant internal steel core, treated to withstand the harsher environments in the Offshore.

Enclosed Foam Core:
Around the steel core there is a secondary core composed by the buoyant urethane core foam layer, which is encapsulated around it, and provides the buoy with the desired amount of buoyancy, even when exposed to compression.

Bonding Foam Layer:
We use an extra polyethylene foam layer inside our high quality Soft Skin Anchor Pendant Buoys, which is subject to a processing that creates a thermal bound between the layers, achieving a higher strength than the materials themselves, which secure in place the internal structure even on harsh conditions.

Outer Soft Skin:
An extra reinforced skin layer made with layers of nylon filaments, crossed between each other in a special pattern that is derived from the unique fabrication of foam-filled fenders, used in the Oil & Gas industry for special berthing applications, and we apply this same technology around the buoy, creating an outer layer of protection, that we call the Soft Skin.
